Oodles of Poodles!

Animals have the power to heal.

This program is based on mutual respect and dignity. Everyone involved benefits!

The inmates benefit from the unconditional love and acceptance that dogs can give. They like to say that they are "Paying it Forward". The inmate-trainers gain self-esteem by providing a much needed service for the community. They also develop marketable employment skills that prepare them to successfully reenter their home communities.

The Department of corrections is fully supportive of this program. The presence of dogs inside the prison has changed the atmosphere in the prison in positive ways. The offenders who volunteer to participate are screened. They must maintain appropriate behavior - with no disciplinary actions, continue in their treatment or work assignments, and follow the rules of the institution to remain in the program.

The dogs receive the love and affection of their inmate-trainers with whom they live and work. The dogs, and trainers share a strong bond. The careful rearing of the puppies and their humane training benefits everyone, especially their future human partners.

Individuals with disabilities, who might not otherwise be able afford a trained service dog are the ultimate beneficiaries of this program.

Our program offers real hope for inmates, individuals with disabilities and rescued dogs – at no cost to taxpayers!
